Ifokanbale (Tranquillity) Olokun Gallery

About

“Did the large tree fall in the forest even if no one heard it?” is one popular rhetoric that defines what tranquillity could mean to anyone. What do peace and silence mean in this fast-paced world where show and tell is the order of the day? On Ifokanbale, the artist picks every little detail along the way to bring us to beautifully painted woods, where nature comes alive in its most serene form. We can find seated at its centre, a terracotta head, silent and receptive. A clear inspiration from Olokun Head, this recurring element throughout this collection gives potent character to the painting. It allows the painting to speak not just of nature but its effect on a person consumed within it. As the artist purposefully blends his elements, there is no doubt that a human (or an artist) feels at peace when he is consumed by himself. There is a free world outside that beckons for your attention and reaction to things that shouldn’t be of concern to you. Many of these events only amount to distractions, and it is advisable to stay protecting oneself in the valley of silence.
