Mimo (Sancity) Olokun Gallery

About

There are several varied implications of holiness in our society. And for all that thread individual paths, their conviction places their own belief as chief over others. This is why at the core concept of this piece, simplicity reigns to unite. The artist uses a broad scope to direct the idea of sanctity, pulling light from the very state of feeling than the different abstract elements that would suffice if he had to cover all beliefs. Humans are innately flawed, making sanctity a perpetual effort. There is always an activity of redemption, a consciousness of self, and a total censure that is required for sanctity to occur. This is largely because sin will always persist, and sanctity is a deliberate effort. In this particular piece, the artist forges a soul out of darkness, only to be illuminated by a symbol of grace. The terracotta head- Inspired by the Olokun Heads – is painted in dark and obscured with a defining element of light – is timeless. The artist is confiding in Mimo that intentionally or not, people will continue to bring their holiness to the fore as a conduit to their spirituality, even when they remain steeped in sin. And there is no subtle suggestion of the fact that when your sanctity is considered first, it is very capable of blinding people’s perspective from the real you.
